CMS Opening Night Open Rehearsal

  • Alice Tully Hall 1941 Broadway at 65th Street (map)

Hosted by Co-Artistic Director Wu Han, this open rehearsal will dive into two works from the CMS season's Opening Night that evening.

  1. Bolcom's Three Rags for String Quartet

  2. Hermann's Psycho: A Narrative for String Ensemble

About the works:

William Bolcom’s Three Rags for String Quartet

An American musical icon, Pulitzer Prize winner, and prolific composer, Bolcom is renowned for his signature fusion of diverse genres. This work showcases his brilliant craftsmanship in bridging the gap between popular music like ragtime—traditionally played on a solo piano—and the fine art of chamber music.

Bernard Herrmann’s Psycho: A Narrative for String Ensemble

A New York-born wunderkind who took Hollywood by storm, Herrmann composed the legendary score for Alfred Hitchcock’s film Psycho. Eight years after the movie's release, he adapted his iconic film score into a formal, gripping concert work for string ensemble.

About Open Rehearsal:

This is a behind-the-scenes look into the artistic process of world-class chamber musicians as they prepare for Opening Night which takes place that evening. It is an opportunity to see musicians work through complex passages, communicate non-verbally and refine tempo changes. The host, co-artistic director Wu Han, may offer brief remarks or insights into the repertoire or historical background of the composition.

Registration closes Friday, Oct 9 at noon.

Ticketing: Names of registrants and their guests will give their names when entering Alice Tully Hall. Each Project Open participant may invite up to 3 guests who do not have to be residents of Lincoln Towers.
